Separate control symptoms from door symptoms
Try to describe whether the wall button works when the remote does not, whether the motor is silent or humming, and whether the door reverses near the floor. Do not keep cycling an opener that is pulling against a heavy, binding, or visibly damaged door.
- Remote fails while the wall control works, or the reverse
- Motor clicks, hums, or runs without lifting the door
- Door starts and reverses or stops partway
- Photo-eye sensors appear obstructed or out of alignment
Keep the safety system in the conversation
Only check for an obvious obstruction around the sensor area. Do not bypass, cover, or disconnect a safety sensor to make the opener run. If the door is heavy or binding, the issue may be with the door or spring system rather than the opener itself.
